A survivor supported by Omugaso International Sanctuary

Freedom isn't just leaving exploitation behind. It's having the power to choose what comes next.

Omugaso International Sanctuary walks alongside women survivors of trafficking in Uganda as they rebuild their lives, grow in independence and shape their own futures.

Who We Are

Specialised, long-term aftercare for women survivors of trafficking.

Leaving exploitation is where rebuilding begins.

At Omugaso, we walk alongside each woman for as long as it takes, as she grows in skills, confidence, and relationships, and chooses what comes next. Everything we do is rooted in dignity, because every woman deserves a life she can call her own.

Why Aftercare Matters

Leaving exploitation is only the first step.

Survivors often come home to trauma, lost income, strained relationships, and stigma, and without support, any of these can lead back to exploitation. That's why our work begins where rescue ends, with the time, care, and opportunity a woman needs to build a life that holds.

How Trafficking Connects to Our Work
Our Approach

From Survival to Sustainable Freedom

The journey toward freedom requires healing from trauma, rebuilding confidence, gaining financial independence, restoring relationships, and developing the skills needed to create a stable future.

Through a safe and supportive community, women receive the tools and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives with dignity - growing in capacity, security, strength, and confidence at every stage.

Our Impact

What does lasting freedom look like?

For the women we support, it looks like:

✓A steady income of her own, and the skills to keep earning
✓A bank account in her name and savings that grow
✓Healthcare and emotional support when she needs them
✓The chance to keep learning, from literacy classes to university study
✓Confidence, independence, and relationships she can trust

Hana: Building a Future of Her Own

“Hana's story shows what meaningful reintegration can look like: not just leaving a programme, but leaving with the skills, confidence, and resilience to sustain a life independently.”

Hana transitioned out of the Sanctuary in March 2022 and now runs her own snack business full-time, supporting her daughter's education.
