About Us

Our Story

Omugaso means purpose.

It's the belief at the heart of everything we do: leaving exploitation is not the end of a woman's story. It's the start of a new chapter, one that takes time, care, and room to imagine a future of her own.

Omugaso International Sanctuary is part of International Sanctuary, a global nonprofit founded in 2007 to support women and girls affected by trafficking and exploitation.

In 2017, this mission took root in Uganda. Omugaso International Sanctuary was established to walk alongside women beyond exploitation, creating space for healing, learning, meaningful work and the opportunity to build independent lives.

Our work has taught us that rebuilding takes time. It calls for more than an exit from exploitation; it requires opportunity, supportive relationships and the freedom to decide what comes next.

Today, we continue to walk alongside women as they discover their strengths, pursue their goals and build lives they can call their own.

Because every woman deserves the opportunity to live with purpose, dignity and independence.

How We Work

Our Approach

Every woman arrives at Omugaso with her own story, her own strengths, her own hopes, and her own challenges. So her restoration should be her own too.

Through the four interconnected pillars of Employment, Education, Community, and Health, we provide long-term support that helps women develop skills, strengthen their wellbeing, build meaningful relationships and work towards greater independence.

We recognise that restoration takes time. There are steps forward, moments of doubt, and times to pause or begin again. We meet women where they are, adapting support as their needs and goals evolve.

We don't decide what a successful life looks like. She does.

Our role is to provide the relationships, resources and opportunities that enable her to make informed choices and shape her own future.

Because freedom is more than leaving exploitation behind. It is having the opportunity, support and confidence to build a life of your own choosing.

Mission

“Together, to help her succeed, whatever it takes.”

Vision

“A world where women survivors of trafficking reclaim their lives with dignity, confidence and purpose.”
